Chocolate Turtle Brownies

Ingredients:

  • 1/2 cup chopped pecans

  • 8 oz milk chocolate by weight

  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter

  • 1 cup light brown sugar

  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

  • 3/4 tsp salt

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar

  • 1/2 cup cocoa powder

  • 1 tsp baking powder

  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

  • 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips

  • 1/2 cup butterscotch chips

Directions:

  1. In a dry skillet over medium heat, toast the chopped pecans for 1–2 minutes, until fragrant and golden. Transfer to a large mixing bowl.

  2. In a medium saucepan, melt the chopped milk chocolate and butter over medium heat, stirring until smooth. Remove from heat.

  3. Stir in the light brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt. Pour this mixture into the bowl with the toasted pecans and mix to combine.

  4. Let the mixture cool to room temperature. Then gently fold in the eggs, one at a time.

  5. Sift in powdered sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, and flour. Mix until just combined. Fold in the milk chocolate chips and butterscotch chips.

  6. Pour the batter into a greased 8- or 9-inch square cake pan. Bake at 325°F (165°C) for 40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted near the center comes out with a few moist crumbs.

  7. Let brownies cool in the pan for at least 30 minutes. Cut into squares and serve.
